MEET MR. FERKOVICH
One of the many reasons why I teach is because I want to help kids discover their individual strengths and skills. This discovery provides building blocks that help students learn, continually improve, and appreciate music's important role in their lives. My goal as an educator is to teach students to embrace curiosity and continuous improvement. I want them to feel welcomed and valued. I also want them to know that maximum effort is expected, mistakes are welcomed, and individual growth is the measure used to define academic success.
The band program at Poynette High School forms a vital and important part of the total high school life. The band represents a large, colorful, visible, and highly disciplined segment of the school. The performance of the band at concerts, parades, festivals, sporting events, as well as other community events, adds a great deal of color and life to the Poynette community.
In the Poynette High School band students participate in large group band rehearsals along with individual lessons. Each is a critical part of the other. Emphasis will be on developing quality performances by implementing learning goals that are aligned to the three district reporting standards for music. These standards were developed from the Wisconsin State Standards and National Standards for music. Academic achievement is the primary factor in grades and is defined as the student's ability to exhibit progress in his/her ability to perform tasks, demonstrate skills, and apply knowledge to real world problems and situation.
